About

Built inside a working music studio.

We wrote B♭ Studio to run our own music studio. The plan is to make it work for other studios too.

B♭ Studio started as software that one studio needed and couldn’t buy. Lessons were in one system, money in a spreadsheet and repairs in a notebook by the bench. Once a month, someone reconciled all three by hand.

Building it changed how we think about the problem. A family that takes lessons and also brings in a guitar is one account, and both bill into it. They bill differently: a repair can’t wait for the monthly cycle, and a lesson shouldn’t be invoiced the moment it ends.

Everything that makes an install belong to one studio is a setting: the name, logo, colors, time zone, currency and terms and conditions. A test reads the source of both applications and fails the build if any file hardcodes a studio’s name, currency symbol or time zone. If rebranding meant editing a component, that would count as a bug.

It’s coming soon to other studios. The waitlist is how we’ll find the first ones.

Who we are.

B♭ Studio is owned by Frank's Musik Services LLC.

We also run Frank's Musik, a music studio that teaches one-on-one lessons online. That is where we built B♭ Studio, and where we use it.

If you have a question about the software, your information or an agreement, write to hello@bflatstudio.com. It comes to us.

Questions we are already being asked.

Can I try it today?
Coming soon. B♭ Studio runs one studio today, and it is on its way to others. Join the waitlist and we’ll be in touch when there is something to show you. The iPhone and iPad app has a demo with a sample family, and it will be there when the app is out.
What does it cost?
Pricing is coming soon. We plan four plans, Solo, Studio, School and Enterprise. The plans page lists what each one includes. Repairs, and later Music Production and a shop, are modules you add to any plan. The practice tools in the iPhone and iPad app will be a monthly subscription through the App Store for people with no studio on B♭ Studio, and free for families at a studio that uses it.

Is my data mixed in with other studios?
Not today. Each studio has its own install, with its own database and integration credentials. The plans are built differently, with many studios on shared infrastructure. We won’t call that finished until a test shows that one studio can’t read another’s records. This answer and the privacy policy will change when it is.
Does it work without Microsoft 365?
Not today. The installation we run signs staff in with Microsoft Entra ID and sends studio email through Microsoft Graph. The plans are being built so you won’t need Microsoft 365: staff would sign in with an email and password, and email would go out from a shared B♭ Studio address with your studio’s name on it. Teams lesson rooms need Microsoft 365, so they are an Enterprise feature. Every other plan sets its own online link, Zoom or anything else.
Is there an app?
Yes, for families. The iPhone and iPad app is coming soon to the App Store. We plan to include it in every plan. It has practice tools, which are a metronome, a tuner, scales, chords, ear training, rhythm and sight reading. It locks behind Face ID, and it reads the same portal as the website. A staff app is planned but not started.
Is there a portal for parents?
Yes. Families sign in to see their invoices, ledger, lessons, make-up credits, statement and any instrument at the bench, and they can pay an invoice by card. Staff give access to each contact and can take it away. Staff can also view the portal as a customer sees it, to answer questions.
